If you have been raped, sexually assaulted or something has happened to you, there is support available.
If you have been sexually assaulted in the last 7 days, we recommend contacting your nearest Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for support. Click here to find your nearest SARC.
If you do not wish to contact a SARC we can support you.
Attending our service
You can attend our walk-in clinic at Barking Community Hospital at any of our walk in times, including during our emergency walk in times. We will prioritise you as an emergency, so that you spend as little time as possible waiting to see a member of staff.
Alternatively, if you wish to speak to someone for advice or to make an appointment, please call 02081382334 or 07432568103.
Services we offer
We offer a sensitive and confidential service for anyone who has been sexually assaulted. We can provide STI screening, emergency contraception and PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis) as needed, alongside advice, support and onward referral.
We will ask you some questions about what happened, so that we can offer you the appropriate services and support that you need. It is up to you how much detail you want to share. We might offer to perform a physical examination, but if you are not comfortable with this you can always say no and we will always respect your wishes.
If you’d like to report what happened to you to the Police, we can provide information and support to do so. We will never force you to report to the police, that is completely up to you.
We can also refer you to services that provide ongoing support, such as counselling or an ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) service should you want that.
Sexual assault referral centres (SARC)
If something has happened to you within the last 7 days, you can contact a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). At a SARC they can help with collecting forensic evidence and police referrals. If it has been over 7 days it is still worthwhile contacting them, to discuss further ways in which they can help.
